Researchers in the University of Illinois have come up with a new process of making long lasting displays using the copper nanowires. These were made in the electronic fabrication where they serve as interconnects. These are ideal for electron emitters in the television-like display screens. Scientists say that there is a possibility of making forests of copper nano wires whose diameter and length can be modified and make it suitable for the integration of electronic devices. These wires can be grown in any surface like glass, metal and plastic. This process is done by chemical vapor deposition process.

These can also be grown on silicon substrates at a very high temperatures of 200 to 300 degrees. These nanowires possess a 70 to 250nm in diameter.

Nanowires can be used in printed electronics applications. Traditional usage was silver which was little on higher price tag. Now with the advent of copper nanowires the making of these printers is lower and hence can also be purchased at lower rates.

Even in the optoelectronics these are better alternative to electrodes as they are flexible and stretchable.
